'; a glimpse into a life
In many ways, Elliot was a disappointment to his parents. For one thing, they expected him to be a female – they already an heir in their five year old firstborn, Matthew, and both of the Callahan parents would have liked one daughter for a change of pace. They had always seen themselves as a classic idealistic family of four – one daughter, one son. And they already had that son. From an early start, he could sense the sort of resentment towards him, the disappointment.

Rather than go to the park with his mother, he preferred to stay at home and write stories about his stuffed animals. It was quite obvious right from the start that Elliot just wasn’t quite the normal child. When he did get dragged along to parties, the little boy’s natural frankness reared it’s ugly head and he said things that would unintentionally humiliate his parents – his dad’s boss’s son looked like a girl, the pattern on his mother’s secretary’s dress looked like bloodstains rather than flowers, and that Grandma Brandt was wearing a wig today because her hair looked crooked.

By the time he was six years old, his parents figured out that leaving him at home to play with his toys was far safer than letting him leave the house.

Because the Callahan family was rather distant, Elliot was never really attached to most of them – he viewed his parents as people who were annoyingly fussy and sister, Janette, was snooty, obnoxious, and far too obsessed about things that really didn’t matter and she scared him. He wasn’t entirely reclusive in his early childhood, as he was almost inseparable with his best friend, Samuel. Samuel was the child of the couple that lived next door. Sam and Elliot played elaborate imaginary games with each other. For the first five years of their lives they conversed exclusively in a language they’d distinctly invented on their own – they never really stopped using it. When they were eight, Elliot used the English alphabet to try writing in their language and started writing stories about their imaginary world with it, which Samuel would illustrate with tiny, highly-detailed little drawings.

Throughout school, Sam and Elliot remained close friends and did almost everything together – studying, double dates, getting into trouble, everything. Though, everyone eventually assumed that they would go their separate ways, as Sam was so set on becoming a cop and Elliot didn’t really have any set path. He had tossed around several ideas, but never really settled on one. Until Sam convinced him to sign up for a psychology course with him because it was better than some other stupid class. And that’s when he fell in love with the subject, with the whole notion of psychiatry.

Since then, his path had been pretty straightforward, and he even managed to prove others wrong. Elliot and Sam didn’t go their separate ways for long. They kept in touch all throughout college and their various trainings, and were once again reunited. Elliot was hired as the criminal profiler for the precinct Sam worked as a detective for. Aside from working for the police, Elliot also went into the private practice and started working for the local hospital as well. His schedule was almost always busy, but he still made time for Sam.

Through hard work and dedication, Elliot became a rather well-known figure in his field, having had numerous articles published and participating in many innovative studies. It was because of his credentials and record that the SGC first became aware of him and his abilities. After a bit of courting him, so to say, Elliot was hired on as the program’s psychiatrist.

This newest little adventure of his was certainly an interesting one, and one in which he never really knew what to expect. Though, he doesn’t regret one moment of it and considers himself quite lucky to be a part of such a top-secret, important operation.

The word 'patient' can pretty much embody Elliot. He has patience to no end. He can also be quite a fiery person, especially when it comes to defending one of his convictions. He jumps into his occupation whole-heartedly and always gives it his all, and then some. Most of the time Elliot can be found going above and beyond the call of duty. He's easy to get along with and can be fiercely loyal. But at the same time, he's quite humble, unless it comes to bragging about something job-related. He's quite humble, other than that. Elliot just rather enjoys flaunting his career to others because he knows he's quite good at what he does.

He enjoys good debates and is rather happy to debate just about anything with someone. He also enjoys philosophical discussions and talking about finer things. For the most part, Elliot tries to keep an open mind about things and tries to keep from passing judgment on others, unless they’re another psychiatrist and he doesn’t agree with their ways. But even then, what happens professionally stays professional. He's not one to carry grudges outside of work, or carry them on while working. He tries very hard to keep his personal life and professional life two separate entities.

Elliot usually isn't one who tries to outdo someone else, but he will if it means landing a great client or bettering his position. He isn't above playing somewhat dirty to better himself, but other than that he does try to maintain high morals, as it was the way he was brought up. He likes to think that he knows all the answers and refuses to admit when he's wrong. Elliot can be quite a prideful man.

It's pretty safe to say that he's also somewhat of the classical 'boy-next-door.' Elliot can be charming and funny, and would rather like to think that he's easy to get along with. Sure, he has made the occasional enemy in his line of work, but he would just as readily tell you that the person doesn't like him because he’s a psychiatrist. He always enjoys meeting new people and can often be found in clubs and out on the town at night doing just that. Of course, he always puts his work and career above his personal life. This wears him down sometimes and when Elliot is stressed he can be pretty snarky.

If asked, he would tell you that he's just as average as the next person and that there isn't anything special or remarkable about him. He usually becomes rather embarrassed when people call him cute or sexy or whatever else because he doesn't think he's anything like that.

He's just about as streetsmart as he is booksmart and Elliot usually flaunts this fact as well. He rather enjoys dazzling people with his brilliance and running circles around them with words. He especially enjoys doing this to patients who believe they know far more than he does.

The man doesn't really believe in marriage and can usually be found in casual relationships. The longest relationship he has had was a little of two years, but the woman eventually broke up with him because he wouldn't commit to her, even though they were living together. He doesn't see this as a personality or character flaw but, instead, simply as a lifestyle choice.

Right. Disclaimer. I'm not really Dr. Elliot Callahan. He's not real. This is just my interpretation of a character based at Stargate: Through the Gate on WBS. He’s all mine, hailing from the depths of my deranged mind. Don’t you dare take him. The revolutionists in Haiti will not be pleased.
